Press Release

Association of Consumers and Taxpayers strikes again

David Seymour

“The National Party has seen the light, and adopted the sensible position of no new taxes. While we welcome this development, we know that were it not for ACT, both a bed tax and a bank tax would have been put in place last Budget," says ACT Leader David Seymour.

"If there was a cut-and-dried case of the difference the ACT Party makes, it is the absence of these two new taxes and the stamp duty on houses National would have put in place given the chance.

"Our favourite part of their release was the bit where they said, 'We determined there is no way to do an accommodation levy without increasing costs on Kiwis booking a weekend away, so we’ll look at how existing mechanisms could be used to support councils with the costs of tourism.'

"That is exactly what the ACT Party said only two weeks ago when we released our local tourism dividend policy. It appears National have now adopted that policy.

"A party vote for ACT is a steadfast anchor that stops New Zealand drifting to the left. This won’t be the last time the fiscal pressure comes on and our friends try to eat the tax apple from the wrong tree. To balance the books with no new taxes, Party Vote ACT in 2026."
