ACT Leader David Seymour is welcoming the record 13.89% funding increase for general practices, a vital investment in frontline healthcare that ACT campaigned on and helped deliver through responsible savings.

“We don’t want Kiwis being turned away because their local GP isn’t taking patients,” says Seymour.

“This boost means more people will get the care they need – without being forced into overcrowded emergency departments and putting more pressure on the entire health system.

“ACT campaigned on a 13% increase in funding for GPs at the election. Today’s 13.89% uplift shows what’s possible when politicians stop wasting money and start focusing on what matters.

“Labour blew billions building a bloated Wellington health bureaucracy. They added co-governance into the mix while ignoring frontline health workers. ACT is proud to have pushed for funding that actually helps people get the care they deserve.

“Other changes supported by ACT, like 12-month prescriptions and improving access to over the counter medicines, will also help ease pressure on GPs while also saving Kiwis time and money.”
