Standing up for Hunters and Licensed Firearm Owners

  • Rewriting the Arms Act to put in place a fit-for-purpose regime which has public safety and simple, effective regulatory processes at its heart.

  • Passing legislation to improve public safety and ease regulatory burdens on clubs and ranges.

  • Commenced a review of the firearms registry and stood up for licensed firearms owners on this issue when our coalition partners wouldn’t.

  • Strengthened Firearms Prohibition Orders to keep firearms out of the hands of criminals.

  • Transferring responsibility for the Arms Act, policy and regulation to the Ministry of Justice, and transferring the Firearms Safety Authority, administrator of the Act, to another department.

  • Advancing a member’s bill to give hunters a seat at the table on conservation decisions.

  • Designating Wapiti deer and other valued introduced species as herds of special interest to allow hunter-led conservation groups to manage deer numbers in national parks.

  • Reforming health and safety laws to improve land access.
