Fair Funding for Independent Schools

The right school can change a child’s future. Parents who choose an independent school often make real sacrifices to pay the fees, while still paying taxes towards education. ACT will keep independent school funding in step with increases for state schools, helping ease pressure on fees so families can keep choosing the education that suits their child.

ACT will:

• Increase the independent school subsidy by the same percentage as state school operational funding in every future Budget.

• Retain the roll-growth funding changes secured in Budget 2025, so funding continues to adjust as more children attend independent schools.

A two per cent increase in state school operational funding would mean a two per cent increase in the independent school subsidy. Schools would have more certainty as they plan ahead, instead of seeing their support stay at the same dollar figure for years.
