If and when a capital gains tax is dumped on New Zealanders, one man will be to blame: Winston Peters.

"New Zealanders should recall that the man who in October 2017 condemned capitalism and assembled a hard-left coalition will be responsible for the transformation of our tax system from competitive to also-ran", says ACT Leader David Seymour.

"Peters’ belief that capitalism is a ‘failed economic experiment’ drove him into the arms of socialists. This despite the fact that free markets have continuously increased living standards for more than 200 years.

"NZ First voters will be ruing the day they made Peters kingmaker.

"He has lied about political donations, made false declarations on a superannuation application, and now he will be responsible for an $8 billion capital gains tax bill.

"Peters is New Zealand’s most expensive citizen. If we add up his salary, perks, travel and pork barrel spending since 1978, it's clear that taxpayers have suffered immensely.

"Voters desperately looking to Winston Peters to strike down the most radical changes to our tax system in decades are betting on the wrong horse.

"He has made up his mind and thrown his lot in with an ideological government intent on transforming our economic system."
