Law and Order

ACT believes protecting the safety and property of its citizens is the government’s first and most important job. The rights of victims should trump the rights of criminals.

policy
A More Democratic New Zealand

ACT believes that all New Zealanders should have the same fundamental rights, regardless of race, religion, sexuality or gender.

policy
Keep Our Streets Safe

ACT introduced Three Strikes in 2010 to make sure serious repeat offenders get proper sentences and stay in prison longer. Labour plans to scrap Three Strikes. That will mean the worst criminals will serve less time in prison and be out on the streets sooner.

Cultural report cottage industry doesn’t fit victim-centric approach

“The use of cultural reports for reducing sentences is out of touch with Justice Minister Kiri Allan’s alleged “victim-centric approach”, more money is being spent helping offenders than victims,” says ACT’s Justice spokesperson Nicole McKee.

Show us the Bill, Prime Minister

“After months of build-up, promising to crack down on gangs, the Government has made an announcement without providing a bill. It’s a perfect example of Labour putting spin before substance, announcing announcements, and being MIA on the details,” says ACT’s Justice spokesperson Nicole McKee

No consequences in Labour’s youth plan - ACT would use ankle bracelets

“Labour’s plan to “drive down youth crime” will fail because it doesn’t introduce a single consequence for youth offenders. ACT would introduce ankle bracelets for serious youth offenders,” says ACT Leader David Seymour.

press release
New Zealand averaging 43 ram raids a month

“Despite the Prime Minister ‘disputing the suggestion’ there was a youth crime problem only a few days ago in Parliament, the Government has confirmed that ram raids committed by young people are out of control,” says ACT’s Police spokesperson Chris Baillie.

Real change in law and order
