Laura McClure

List MP

Spokesperson for Small Business, Education, Seniors, Mental Health

About

Laura McClure is a small-business owner, board member, and passionate advocate for families and communities. Born and raised in Christchurch as the eldest of three children, Laura grew up in a household full of political debate, with parents from different sides of the political spectrum.

She attended Burnside High School and trained as a pharmacy technician after beginning an arts degree at the University of Canterbury. Laura worked in pharmacy in Christchurch and Wellington, then joined her family’s fire evacuation business as a registered fire safety evacuation consultant.

Laura volunteered for the ACT Party starting in 2020—working for MP Toni Severin—and was elected as a list Member of Parliament in 2023.

She lives in Christchurch with her two children.

In Parliament, Laura brings a grounded, family-focused, and practical perspective. Whether she’s cheering on her children at a sports game or contributing to debates in the House, she is committed to building freedoms and opportunities for hardworking Kiwi families.

"Every child deserves an education tailored to their unique talents and interests, and it’s time our education system reflected the needs and wants of our communities. We need to transform the landscape of learning, encouraging diverse educational approaches"
