ACT Leader David Seymour welcomes developments that reduce terrorism in the Middle East and bring about freedom for ordinary people.
“People can debate endlessly the rights and wrongs of international law, and I’m sure they will in universities for decades. But we should be honest about the question at the heart of it, why should international law protect a dictator who commits indiscriminate mass murder of his own citizens?" asks Mr Seymour.
“This is another watershed moment where an axis of evil is falling. First in Venezuela, now in Iran, people right across the Middle East can look forward to a lot more freedom without this terrorist organisation and its proxies attacking and terrorising the region.
"Iranian women have been among the most persecuted, the Iranian Government’s so-called ‘Morality Police’ have been known to commit murder if someone is allegedly wearing a hijab incorrectly. We hope that women and girls in Iran will be able to wear what they want, dress how they like, and go to school freely – unlike the last four decades of oppression under this regime.
“Closer to home, we will be watching closely for the continuation of critical trade routes, so families here don’t face another wave of inflation driven by disruption offshore.
“The Iranian people should be allowed to determine their own future. We hope this leads to Iranian citizens being free to live without state coercion and fear."
