Linux
I have been running Linux on my laptop for two weeks now and are enjoying it.
I started off on Mandrake but quickly swapped to Ubuntu 5.10. I've installed Openoffice 2 for reading/writing word and excel documents. The
Linux edition of Realplayer for MP3 and video and of course Firefox for web browsing. All free software - it hasn't cost me a cent.
Almost everything works fine - USB, WiFi (for my home network - I plug into the network when at work).
We did have some troubles getting my Telecom 3G going though. Linux isn't supported by Telecom so no help there. Thanks to some help from NZ LUG
(Linux User Group) member Matt Brown and some others it's now working great.
I also still have to get ACPI going. I can't put the laptop into sleep mode and the thus the battery runs down very fast.
