Govt must rule out Fart Tax return

ACT Rural Affairs spokesman Gerry Eckhoff today called on the Labour Government to give farmers an unequivocal assurance that it will not revisit the Fart Tax as a result of its embarrassing billion-dollar miscalculation around carbon credits.

“Livestock farmers gave a very clear message to the Government 18 months ago that such a tax will not be tolerated in any shape or form.

“Government officials will be falling over themselves to find ways of balancing the huge debt that New Zealand now finds itself in.

“Rural New Zealand is seen as nothing more than a cash cow by Labour.  It is incumbent upon them to give an unequivocal assurance that farmers won’t have to pay for its blunder,” Mr Eckhoff said.
